New Year, new yarn
The world has woken up to the fact that there is more to fibre than just sheep’s wool. My favourite new yarn is Louisa Hardings Thistle, a blend of Suri alpaca & merino. What’s Suri alpaca you ask? Well ther are two types of alpaca , hycuya & suri. Probably spelt the first one incorrect-sorry about that, but their fibre is soft, fluffy and full of air & loveliness. The suri has a much longer silkier fleece which swishes when they walk & run It’s not easy to spin by hand so congratluations to the folk in Peru who have found a way to produce such a fantastic yarn. It knits up beautifully & is silky to the skin and because it has a tweedy/heathery look theĀ knitted fabric almost looks woven when garter stitch is used.
